Mobile Phone Use in Bali

Back to Bali Travel Tips

If you look around in the cities of Bali, you see allmost as many mobile phone (accessory) shops as there are food stalls (warungs)...

You can buy a new mobile phone in Bali for 70-100 USD, but you can probably use you own mobile phone as well, at a cost...

It seems that some new mobile phone brands are much cheaper in Bali then in other countries!

If you use your own mobile phone, it is a good (read cheap) thing to lock your provider in Bali. If your phone switches between providers, there is a charge.. So pick one, Telkom, Indosat or someting, as your preffered provider. Look in your mobile phone manual how to do this. It saves money!

If your phone is not sim locked by your (foreign) provider, you can buy a mobile (pre-paid) telephone sim card from an Indonesian provider, they are very cheap. Saves you a lot of money on local calls!

International Calls

The International pre-fix for dialing outside Indonesia is 001, 008 (through Indosat provider) or 007. There is a cheaper 017 pre-fix for a VOIP connections, can also be used from some (local) mobile phones.

You can make International calls from some WarTels (Warung Telephony) and your hotel (usually more expensive).

Art is also an integral part of daily life and every village has its artists, from the internationally acclaimed painter to the aspirational young cow herder. Ubud, the cultural centre, with its streets lined with art and crafts shops, also has performances of traditional Balinese dance and music.
